We are looking for recipes that use the produce grown on your allotment and can include cakes, bakes, perserves, chutneys in fact anything you like.

1 September 2010 - Blight on Autumn Potatoes

We have been advised that some plot holders have the early signs of blight on their autumn potaotes. Please therefore check carefully and where appropriate spray or remove infected leaves.
More information from the Potato Council - available here.

20 August 2010 - WAAGS on Radio Cornwall

We got a mention this morning on the James Churchfield show at about 7.45am ish. Tracy Wilson stated how impressed she was with the hard work everyone had put in considering the site had only opened on 1 May 2010. Unfortunately we are not allowed to post a recording of the article for you to listen to.

19 August 2010 - Cornwall in Bloom Judging

The judging went well despite the torrential rain. The judge Tracy Wilson, from BBC Radio Cornwall together with the committee got soaked through to the skin. However, it was worth it as Tracy was very impressed with what everyone has acheived in such a short space of time and asked us to pass on how impressed she was and to congratulate everyone on their hard work.

She spent about an hour walking around the site taking lots of photos and asking lots of questions. We just have to wait now for the result.

We have also now received the cheque for the £250 grant.

14 August 2010 - Summer Get-Together

Our first informal get-together - read more.

Don't forget to check the courgettes before you go on holiday !!

Before you know it they will take over your plot as Jess and Jack from Plot 53 found out recently. Although you do not necessarily have to go away to experience the courgette growth effect.

Please send us your photos. Thanks.

6 August 2010 - Water Test Results

We have today received the written report on the water test. Everything is within normal ranges with the only proviso being that the water should be boiled before drinking.

We have received a draft water agreement from the council and intend to start work on installing the meter and pipe work very shortly. Once we have signed the agreement with the Town Council and installed the standpipes we will be able to use the water.

If you have any concerns then please speak to any committee member.

4 August 2010 - Footpath Steps and Handrail

We noticed that the public footpath steps leading up to the allotments from the Camelford road were a death trap. We therefore reported this. We have today been informed that repairs have now been carried out and the steps are safe again.

The area around the steps has also been strimmed and cleaned up. If you experience any problems when using the steps please let us know.

31 July 2010 - Coffee Morning and Christmas Seed Potatoes

A big thank you to everyone that helped, donated or came to the Coffee Morning today and also to those that purchased their Christmas Seed Potatoes. The event was a huge success and once all monies have been collected we will have made a profit of over £350 which will be used towards the cost of our new rabbit proof fencing.

29 July 2010 - Potato Blight

We have an outbreak of potato blight on the site. Please check to see if you have been affected. If you have not been infected or if the infestation is light you may want to spray after you have picked off the infected leaves. If you do have infected leaves then please remove from the site in an plastic bag as soon as possible and dispose of. Potato blight may also affect Tomatoes so please also check these and treat in the same way.

What is Potato Blight? Leaflet as produced by the Potato Council - available here.
